Common Questions
-
Google. For Real?
Quite real. I’m Joel Bolton: a Portland resident, a professional interiors photographer specializing in panoramic photography, and an independent contractor representing Google’s premium product for businesses: Google Street View | Trusted. I am Portland, Maine’s first Google Trusted Photographer. I am not one of those robo-callers who pretend to be Google and tell you they will improve your search ranking. I get those same annoying calls, too. They can sound pretty convincing, but don’t fall for them. Note: The real Google never calls, unless you’ve called them concerning a specific problem that needs follow-up.
Though I am not an employee of Google, I work directly with the fine people in Google Maps Street View program in Mountain View, California and I’m approved to work with their proprietary tour-building software and systems. I was recruited by Google because of the quality of my photography work, and my past experience in Web development. I’ve been trained, tested, and certified by Google to bring “See Inside” tours to businesses throughout Maine.

Is Google Street View | Trusted for Business Easy To Do?
Very easy. I know the social media thing can feel overwhelming for small business owners. I’m a local resource for you, and Google trained to help. In four short steps you are all set!
-
How can I use the “See Inside” Tour?
Part of this great deal is that you get a broad usage license for your tour! The tour appears on Google Maps and Google Search and is hosted by Google, at no additional charge. Plus, I give you easy instructions for embedding the tour within your website or Facebook page!
If you’ve ever sourced professional photography for your business, then you know the value of the Google Street View | Trusted tour. You get great quality and coverage of your store, shop, restaurant, office or venue with a one-time-only investment, and ZERO additional licensing fees. (Compare that to purchasing one single professional stock photo. Licensing with multiple media usage rights can easily top $400 per image.)
-
One Time Fee?
Yes, I promise you’ll never incur any additional charges unless you choose to update your virtual tour or decide to add an optional overlay system. All imagery is hosted by Google at no additional charge.
Note: There is a completely optional add-on tour overlay feature some businesses choose that does entail a modest monthly fee. Typically this option is most often chosen by larger businesses who want to quickly direct customers and prospects to a specific department or distant location within their tour or to provide additional information within their tour. The overlay enhances the “See Inside” walk-through tour with a menu for quick navigation and also features “hot spots” that provide valuable business details (about products or features for example) as the customer proceeds through the virtual tour.
-
How long does a photo shoot take?
Each business is different. As a result, shooting time can vary drastically. For an average size restaurant or shop it can take about 1.5 – 2.5 hours to capture all the panoramic photo spheres for your “walk-through” virtual tour. The photo shoot can be conducted during business hours with minimal distraction. Or I’m available to do the shoot during a quieter time when the business is closed.
